About Your Health - Organic Beef Western Australia

Organic Beef Western Australia

The health benefits of eating biodynamic food cannot be overstated. In a way it almost seems to be superfluous to stress all the advantages of eating something that has been grown in a natural, vibrant environment.

There is not a lot of reliable literature available that specifically deals with the nutritional effects of biodynamic food in comparison with organic food.

Certainly one of our main points of difference to mainstream farming is that we refuse to engage in the practice of lot feeding animals or 'finishing them off' with grain. We firmly believe that cows are natural grazers and they will reach their optimum weight (not necessarily the one deemed desirable by the big industry) and palatability with what's naturally available.

Rather than launching into a lengthy tirade of what's good for you we will refer you to a couple of web sites that specifically deal with the nutritional ramifications of grass fed vs grain fed.

But if you prefer the even shorter version in bullet style here are the main advantages of eating grass fed produce as listed by many nutritionists and dietitians:

Substantially increased Beta Carotene.
Lower in fat and calories.
Significantly higher 'good' Omega 3 fats, the same you may find in fish but without the possible mercury contamination.
Up to 6 times less 'bad' Omega 6 fats than grain fed beef, the fat we call 'Mc Donalds' fat.
Up to four times more vitamin E than grain fed animals, which can lower the risk of heart diseases and cancer.
Grass fed beef is one of the richest sources of another 'good' fat, CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) which is now being linked to reducing cancer risks.

The best web site we have come across is http://www.eatwild.com
It is an American web site and has stacks of articles, some of which are highly relevant to what's happening here.

Another good American site is http://www.foodrevolution.org
From the drop list of articles you can click on 'What about Grass-fed Beef?'

We would have loved to point you to Australian web sites that deal with the nutritional effects of grass fed beef but we have come across a bit of a want of easily accessible literature. Maybe you'll find something on google page 784432 but we ran out of time.
